Posterior Thoracic Fusion with the O-Arm and Stealth Navigation

James T. Bennett, MD

Free Streaming Video

When the patient's anatomy is somewhat mobile and misaligned preoperative imaging is of limited use for navigation and 2D imaging is limiting in that is does not provide valuable axial views. In this submitted video,  James T. Bennett, MD of Tulane University, demonstrates the O-arm system with Stealth navigation. These tools allow the surgeon to visualize pedicle preparation and screw placement at all affected levels.

With more than 10 years of experience with Stealth navigation and 2 years with O-arm, Dr. Bennett has revised 2 screws: one, adjacent to the aorta but no impingement; at one week post-op; and one, breaching the medial pedicle wall. While this was not a significant breach and SSEP and MEP monitoring and pedicle stimulation were all normal, he was able to revise immediately following verification scan with the O-arm, thereby avoiding a return trip to the OR.
