Hill Hastings II, MD
Material Covered
Dr. Hill Hastings II, of Indianapolis, Indiana, has co-developed a 3rd generation total elbow prosthesis which more closely matches the anatomy than other commercially available elbow implants and provides a superior hinge mechanism that is easier to assemble and revise should it become necessary. The new prosthesis, developed in conjunction with Dr. Thomas J. Graham of Baltimore, Maryland, solves problems with older designs such as dislocation, fragmented bushings, metal-induced synovitis and polyethylene wear. In a previous VJO New Developments segment, Dr. Hastings demonstrated exposure and early bone preparation. In this video, Dr. Hastings' continues the demonstration of his surgical technique for total elbow arthroplasty, including distal humeral preparation, humeral canal preparation, ulnar preparation, trial reduction, implantation, closure and postoperative protocol.
