Material Covered:

This segment presents Arthur D. Steffee, M.D., surgically demonstrating the VSP system, which he developed in 1982. This segmental spine plate fixation system utilizes a posterior approach for disorders of the lower thoracic and lumbar spine. The indications are significant instability and severe pain in the adult spine where immobilization is a necessity. This system, in comparison to several others commonly used, has been shown to provide improved skeletal fixation. Its design and placement make it very effective for use on postlaminectomy patients presenting instability.
