Dupuytren's Contracture is a condition characterized pathologically by hypertrophic fibroplasias of the palmar aponeurosis and its deep faxcial extensions within the digits, producing fibrotic cords that gain attachments to surrounding structures, undergo contracture, and result in flexion deformity of the distal palm and fingers.

Dr. Lubahn discusses a number of parameters of the condition, including the pathology, the history of the disease, the etiology and the risk factors, indicating that Caucasians of Northern European ancestry and those who have a family history of the disease are more at risk, especially males.

Dr. Lubahn demonstrates a corrective surgical procedure, the open palm technique described by McCash in 1964, which leaves a portion of the wound open. He concludes that the surgical treatment recommended by Baron Von Dupuytren back in the mid-1800s is still very much the way the condition is treated today.
