Material Covered:

Although total elbow arthroplasty is technically challenging, it has become a common procedure for the treatment of selected complex elbow disorders. However, issues with dislocation, fragmented bushings, metal induced synovitis and polyethylene wear persist.

Dr. Hill Hastings II, with the Indiana Hand Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, has co-developed a 3rd generation total elbow prosthesis which solves problems with 2nd generation designs.

In this VJO New Developments video presentation, Dr. Hastings presents an in-depth surgical review of exposure, soft tissue preparation and early bone preparation. In a second video, issues of final bone preparation and prosthesis implantation are reviewed.
